It's over- my summer vacation, that is, but wow, what a summer! It is always fun to spend the summer at a place I have come to every summer since I was one. As my regular readers know, I'm talking about my family's cabin near Lake Tahoe in the Sierras, which has been in my family for nearly three decades. As an out door's girl, I love to hike, fish, sail, swim, and spend some time soaking up the sun and the clean, fresh mountain pine air. One of the best things about being up in the mountains is the feeling of being away from it all and just reflecting on life and everything I have learned and discovered. This summer, one of my favorite things that I really loved doing was packing my beach bag full of all the necessities like sparkling water, a towel, my ipod, and my trusty blackberry and heading down to the sandy shore of the lake. I'd walk down to the water's edge and just sit down and write-yes write. One of the things I'm going to miss the most about the cabin is the beautiful surroundings I was able to enjoy while writing each entry. How many other bloggers can say they blogged while soaking their feet in crystal clear lake water with a bald eagle circling the bright, blue sky above? The glorious beauty surrounding me inspired me to write, what I believe, to be my most honest, personal pieces yet. In a way, it was comforting to know that the peaceful lake was at my feet. The peace and serenity can be so enjoyable at times. God is so good!!! While I am a very social person and love my family and friends, I prefer to just have quiet around me as I write. I know I am not alone. Not only do many of you probably prefer to write in a peaceful surrounding, but Sarah does too. Just recently, Sarah's dad, Chuck, said Sarah is in a secluded place (he doesn't even know the location) working on her book. Like many of you, I am eager to read it, and no doubt it will be absolutely amazing. In her 45 years, Sarah has already lived quite a life full of wonderful and unique experiences. As we all know, her life dramatically changed within this past year. At this time last year, she had just gone from being a little-known governor to VP nominee, while balancing work, raising a family, preparing to become grandmother and sending her eldest child off to war- what a year. I'd say Sarah Palin had an unforgettable year.
At this time last year, many of us, including myself, were just getting to know this amazing woman. Now that we have gotten to know her, we await her book. Guess what, folks? It's HER TURN!!! Like you, I'm sick and tired of the media's distorted slime journalism. For far too many months, we have had to hear one false story after another. At one point, I was this close to throwing a high-heel at the TV, but decided my shoes, not to mention my TV were far too expensive, to waste on the biased media, so I just resorted to telling off my television. Sarah is finally going to be able to set the record straight about what her life has really been like! No more so-called Trig-truthers, campaign staffers and press to delude and use anonymous sources. Sarah is the source, the TRUE source. In typical Sarah fashion, I KNOW we'll get the straight talk, and I'm predicting her book will quickly become a New York Times Best Seller!!!
It is Sarah's turn to fight all the lies and smears that have been thrown her way. She will finally be able to set the record straight. It is sad what our media have become, and I say this as someone who studied journalism in college and worked in a newsroom. (See my post entitled "Slime Journalism" for more on this topic.) I have a feeling Sarah, a former journalist, will devote part of her book to the sad state of today's media. This past presidential election changed the objective media we once knew. Instead of reporting the facts, they resorted to yellow journalism, the kind of stuff that you used to only read in tabloids like "The National Enquirer." This is why Sarah's story will be a breath of fresh air that is so needed to cleanse this polluted, political air.
So, while you may be missing your daily "Sarah fix," remember that Sarah is working hard on her own masterpiece. If it's quiet and seclusion that she needs and desires in order to write, let's give it to her. This is a woman who has so much to offer our great country. Not only has she restored my faith that America WILL one day be that shining beacon of light once again, but that her voice is the voice of reason, her message is the true message of change. So write on, Sarah, write on!!!

Unscripted Moment
It is an unscripted moment that I will remember most, which was captured in a photograph: With her arms outstretched, she ran toward her youngest daughter like a true, loving mother who had just returned home from a business trip. This is perhaps my favorite moment that I will forever have of Sarah Palin. While many will cite the phenomenal speech she gave at the Republican National Convention or the way in which she re-energized a party, I will always remember her for the way she was when she was with her children. Many of you may remember the event I am describing above. I remember it well. It was about 48-hours before election day, and Sarah was returning home to Alaska from a whirlwind tour of the lower 48 in which she captured the hearts and minds on Americans everywhere. I will never forget when her plane touched down in Alaska- she was home, and her hometown crowd gave her a hero's welcome. As she came down the steps of the plane, I will never forget the excited expression on her face; she couldn't get off that plane fast enough. While many candidates would immediately rush to the podium to speak, the ever unconventional (thank God) Sarah immediately RAN over to greet her children in, I might add, a suit (classy as usual) and her signature red-colored heels, which is an accomplishment in itself. There, on the busy tarmac, stood little Piper eagerly waiting, arms outstretched waiting for her mommy. Sarah saw her and ran to her, and the two embraced. This unscripted moment defines a mother's love for her child and a child's love for her mother. For a moment, time stood still, and there was no denying how much love Sarah has for her children and the love they have for her in return. It is moments like these that illustrate what life is all about: family, faith and country. This is what Sarah is all about. Sarah was not there for a photo-op, or to pose in front of the camera, but to reunite with her family. Yet, sometimes the most unscripted events make for the best photographs. Low and behold, when I opened my edition of "People" Magazine shortly after Sarah's return to AK, I saw the unscripted photo of the event described above. With her back to the camera, Sarah is seen bending slightly, so that she is on Piper's level. The smile on little Piper's face speaks volumes. This is a little girl who not only loves her mom very much, but looks up to her with intense pride.
Many may wonder why I would choose this moment as my favorite memory of how to remember Sarah from the 2008 election. The reason is simple: This moment defines Sarah Palin-the incredible person, Sarah Palin- the loving mother. Remember, Sarah was a mother before she was a candidate. Sarah is the epitome of a woman who knows how to balance career and family. It is her family whom she cherishes and holds most dear. The close relationship she has with her children is apparent. Just as a mama grizzly guards her cubs, Sarah protects her children. We all know this to be true. Whenever her children are attacked, Sarah does what any good parent would do and protects her kids. Not only does she protect her kids, but she includes them in every major decision she makes, which is a trait I greatly admire about her. Instead of looking out for her own political gain, Sarah knows what is important and that's family. In her announcement that she would not seek re-election and resign as AK's governor, she was surrounded by those most close to her, which illustrates her commitment to not only her children and husband, but her entire family as well. Throughout the cam pain, Sarah's constant was her family. While travelling from city to city, town to town, it was apparent how much she values each and every one of them. How wonderful that her family got to experience the campaign trail with her. What better schooling for little Piper than to see how others live? Talk about a cool field trip! The memories her children will take with them from experiencing life on the campaign trail are those they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. This is another thing that makes Sarah stand out. While many candidates only allow their children to experience certain parts of a campaign, Sarah let her children truly experience campaign life. Willow, Piper and Trig were fixtures at the events and rallies. They met new people, saw this great country- the heart and soul of America and got to see how amazing a mother they have. In doing this, Sarah seemed to be saying, "This is who I am. I'm a proud mother and candidate. My children are my world; they are part of the package too."
Thank you, Sarah, for showing us what it means to be a loving parent, a loving mother. It is so apparent how much pride little Piper has for you. Little Trig is so lucky to have a mom who is not afraid to speak out on issues that are important to his future. Track is so blessed to have a mom who cares so deeply about our troops and their safety. Willow and Bristol are so fortunate to have a role model like you. Of all the precious, memorable moments during the campaign, it is the moments of Sarah, as mother, that I will never forget. For it is in this role that we got to see a woman who knows what is important and cherishes the little things and every memory that comes her way, and that, fellow readers, is the stuff that matters most, the stuff dreams are made of!!!

Dear Sarah...
This blog entry is going to be a little bit different than the others I have written. August 29th marks the day that Sarah Palin was introduced to the lower 48. Not only did this day make history, but this day signified the first time in political history that conservative women like me had a voice speaking out on issues that we truly care about. In honor of all that Sarah means to me as well as other conservative women (and men too), the following is a thank you letter to Sarah. Now, I don't know if she will ever read it, as I know she is very busy, but I just wanted her to know how much she inspires me to work tirelessly in the name of freedom and liberty. Dear Sarah, I don't know if you remember me, but my family is the family from San Diego that has sent you and your amazing family some embroidered clothing items that my mom, Cyndi embroidered. As the owner of an embroidery business, she truly appreciates all you have done in your tireless support for small business. I remember last August 28th very well. That night, I was watching Hannity and Colmes. I remember that day had been a day of speculation in the news business, as all of the networks were wondering who John McCain would pick to be his running mate the next day. I'm sure you remember that day well. You were probably excited, yet nervous- I know I'd be. As Hannity and Colmes were discussing the possible picks, I have to admit that I wasn't too excited with any of the names being thrown around. Early in the election, I had thrown my support behind the great former mayor of New York, Rudy Guilliani. I had always admired him greatly on how he single-hand idly lifted the spirits of the city of New York and in turn inspired a nation. I respect John McCain for his great service to our country, but my enthusiasm was not at a "jump-up-and-down-on-the-couch" kind of level. This all changed when you became the VP nominee. On the eve of the announcement, I remember saying to my mom how I hoped that, just somehow, John McCain would pick a great conservative woman to be his running mate; little did I know that my hope would become a reality. Sarah, by far, the best decision John McCain ever made was selecting you to be his running mate. Not only have you inspired a nation, but you re-energized a party. I first heard about you from my dad. He is a big fan of yours- particularly for the no-nonsense way in which you cleaned up the corruption in AK and remained fiscally conservative throughout your time as governor. When you were announced as the VP choice, I immediately saw what my dad had already known: You were, indeed, a true reformer and inspirational woman at that. As I watched the event in which you were announced on that beautiful summer day of August 29th, I was immediately energized and inspired like I had been at no other time in terms of wanting to do and be more involved politically. You are a role model to me and countless other women who one day wish to run for political office. For the first time, I found a female candidate whom I not only agreed with wholeheartedly, but respected. I finally realized how it must have felt for my female friends who look up to democratic politicians like Hillary Clinton. I know I speak for many when I tell you how much that truly means to FINALLY be represented by someone who truly does understand. I can identify with you in so many ways. Like you, I studied journalism in college, was active in sports growing up, learned the value of hard work and love for the outdoors. And like you, I hope to one day run for political office. I did not always feel this way. While I am only 28, I always felt that to run as a conservative candidate, meant you had to be rich, old and male-a member of elite society, no offense to those in this category. Sarah, when you stepped onto the stage that August day, wearing I have to say the coolest red pumps I had ever seen (I actually have a pair and love them!), I saw a woman who not only loved her country and family tremendously, but God as well. You inspire me to want to make this country a better place for myself and those around me. You inspire me to WANT to fight the good fight in the name of freedom, liberty and integrity. I know I am not alone in writing this. I have seen and become friends with many people just like myself who have been inspired by you.It is easy for a politician to say something of meaning, and another for the individual to actually practice what he/she preaches. Sarah, you not only talk the talk, but you walk the walk, and this is SO refreshing in a time in which hypocrisy is so rampant. Thank you, Sarah, for illustrating what talking the talk and walking the walk truly means. Your little precious angel, Trig, is a testament of the love you have for life. Not only have you showed the world how much of a blessing having a special needs child can be, but you widened the awareness of how important it is to choose life. Both you and Todd have illustrated what it means to love a child, and this is so prevalent in the love and pride you have for not only little angel Trig, but your other awesome children and grandchild as well. You are a great advocate for children everywhere. You have also taught me the importance of standing up for what it right and always believing in myself. I used to just sit back, quiet and not say anything if someone said something political that I did not agree with or spoke out in hate against our previous President, George W. Bush, but not anymore. Now, I am not afraid to calmly tell someone my opinions and stick up for those I feel are being unfairly attacked. It is not only my first amendment right, but my duty as a concerned citizen. Thank you so much for speaking out on issues that effect us, Sarah. Issues such as health care, the death panels, the funding of our dollars given to other countries so they can drill while we don't (absolutely crazy), energy independence as well as many other important issues. People know they can count on you to give them the straight talk and commonsense message. You are my main motivation for starting a blog, which I began shortly after the election. My blog is called "Conservative Girl with a Voice," and my website is http://conservativegirlwithavoice.blogspot.com. Writing has given me chance to not only use my journalism and English degrees, but speak out on various national issues as well as issues you are either involved with or speaking out on. I really enjoy it and have met many amazing people in the process. I don't know the direction God is leading me (I originally wanted to be a college professor), but I am excited at the what is ahead, perhaps a career in politics, and this is all because of you and what you stand for. The great people of the great state of AK are so nice and genuine, and they are truly "real people." Through blogging and Twitter, I have gotten to know great people like Eddie Burke (who has been kind enough to have me as a guest on his great radio show), Jessica Steele, Ivy Frye, and Kristan Cole. You Alaskans are truly the real deal, the heart and sole of America! I have also gotten involved with the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee as the San Diego Regional Organizer. It is my hope that you run for president in 2012 because America needs your voice of reason. I have gotten to know so many great, hardworking individuals (like the awesome Kristina Lazzaro who's the Buffalo Regional Organizer and runs a great blog, "Inspiration Sarah," and the inspiring Adrienne Ross, who has had the great opportunity of meeting you and you family on a couple of occasions and is not only head of media and in charge of the state of New York for Draft Sarah, but has a fabulous blog, "Motivation Truth." She is a great sister in Christ) who have the same vision in hoping you choose to run for president. I have been reading all about the great Ronald Reagan this summer, and I must say, you are like him in so many ways. Not only are you a great communicator and inspire individuals to want to be better human beings, but you give us hope that our best days are in front on us, not behind us. It is with that hope that I look forward knowing that God is in control and that I must put my faith in him. Words cannot express my heartfelt gratitude for all you have done for America, and I KNOW your not finished yet-God has big plans for you. Thank you for being a great role model and someone with a true servant's heart.
God bless you and your family,
Rachelle

"Death Book": Total Non-Fiction!
Have you all heard of the "death book"? Believe it or not, before all this talk of "death panels" was brought to the forefront, the "death book," although in order to be politically correct was entitled "Your Life, Your Choices" already existed. The 52-page document, originally published in 1997 by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), was developed as a way to cut costs in terms of the health care our brave veterans would receive once they returned back home. Once the Bush Administration learned of this document, they ordered the VA to stop using it for not only health reasons, but moral issues as well. In the August 18th edition of the "Wall Street Journal," is an op-ed written by Jim Towey regarding the "death book."
Towey is an amazing individual who fights on the side of life. He created the document entitled "Five Wishes," which is the most widely used living will in America (over 13 million in national circulation). According to Towey, his document contains "no standard bias and does not withdraw or withhold medical care" unlike the controversial "death book." It also meets all the legal requirements in 43 states, and unlike the lengthy 52-pages of the VA's so-called "end-of-life" planning document, Towey's document is only 12 pages. In his op-ed, Towey writes the following:
"After a decade of observing end-of-life discussions, I can attest to the great fear that many patients have, particularly those with few family members and financial resources. I lived and worked in an AIDS home in the mid-1980s and saw first-hand how the dying wanted more than health care—they wanted someone to care."
Thank God for people like Jim Towey. Like the late Princess Diana, Towey knows the simple gestures like holding a sick person's hand mean so much. Personally, This couldn't be more true. The hardest decision my family ever had to make was the decision to put my grandmother into a convalescent hospital because we could longer care for her ourselves. She had a feeding tube and needed around the clock care. Although my grandmother was in pain and had many hardships, she did not quit the fight to live, and my family was with her every step of the way. It was the little things that meant the most to her. The visits, the talks, the time spent with her. When my grandma passed away, my mom and grandpa were there holding each of her hands. While my grandma may have been in pain, she did NOT want to go until God called her home. I will never forget the time I spent with her. The joy on her face spoke volumes to me. Whenever any of her family entered the room, it just made her day. Grandma loved life and fought hard to the very end. As a born-again Christian, she went when it was God's time for her to go, not the government's.
While the discussion of cutting health care costs is at the forefront of the Obama Administration's health care debate, it is important to note that in cutting the costs will come the reduction in care received. Perhaps the "death book" is best at foreshadowing this. According to Towey, Obama "will quickly discover how government bureaucrats are greasing the slippery slope that can start with cost containment but quickly become a systematic denial of care." It is important to note that this document had been used prior to the Bush Administration's suspension of its use. During the Clinton Administration, this document was used as the "preferred living will" in VA nursing rooms and hospitals. Just last year, the VA's National Center for Ethics in Health Care wanted the document's practices to be once again put into use. How dare the government come in between veterans, their families and their doctors? Decisions concerning one's life should be up to the individual and his/her family, not the government.
Our veterans should be treated with the up most respect and honored for all they have done to serve our great country. When they come home, they should be given the best care and treated honorably, for it is the least we can do for all they have done for us. Yet, instead of treating them this way, the "death book" seems to help our good veterans determine if their lives are worth living anymore. The main author of the document is none other than Dr. Robert Pearlman who is the chief of ethics evaluation for the VA National Center for Ethics in Health Care. Perhaps the most disturbing thing about Pearlman is his support for physician-assisted suicide as well as his calls for the rationing of health care. So let me get this straight: The same man who supports physician-assisted suicide and rationed health care is author of a book that is being used to help veterans make end-of-life decisions? Not only is this deeply disturbing, but it is morally offensive to think that our good men and women are being guided in their decision making with a book that was written by a man who seems to condemn life, not value it. As I was researching for more on this document, I could not believe what I found. Although this book is entitled "Your Life, Your Choices," the information in this document is anything but the patient's choice. Towey describes some of the most frightening, disturbing aspects of the book. He describes the book as a "push poll"of sorts, which "presents end-of-life choices in a way aimed at steering users toward predetermined conclusions...." The book gives 21 different scenarios, asking "users to then decide whether their own life would be 'not worth living.'" Here we have the world's most brave men and women, who fought in and survived circumstances that I cannot even begin to imagine, and they are going to be quizzed about how to die? I don't know about you, but I guarantee these brave men and women who fought for our country want to live and die with dignity, not be told how they should die. They are fighters, not quitters. You are not going to believe some of the scenarios that are laid out in this book. Towey lists some of the most disheartening: "The circumstances listed include ones common among the elderly and disabled: living in a nursing home, being in a wheelchair and not being able to 'shake the blues.'" Towey mentions another section of the book, which asks: "Have you ever heard anyone say, 'If I'm a vegetable, pull the plug'?" What this very question implies is hard to stomach. The sick scenarios do not end with this question. Towey also reports others scenarios: "There also are guilt-inducing scenarios such as 'I can no longer contribute to my family's well being,' 'I am a severe financial burden on my family' and that the vet's situation 'causes severe emotional burden for my family.'" These very scenarios are not only morally troublesome, but downright evil. How dare the VA treat our vets this way? Furthermore, how dare the Obama Administration allow this book back into practice. This very book is a death sentence to our good men and women. This book seems to imply that our vets should feel guilty if they want to remain alive, enjoy life and die a natural death. They have made enough sacrifices in serving our country, leave them alone- enough is enough. President Obama and his administration have NO right playing God.
Our good men and women come home with enough to deal with, and now the government wants to dictate who among them lives and dies? All our vets should have to worry about is spending their later years surrounded by their friends and family, enjoying life. After all they have done for us in sacrificing and defending or liberty and freedom, the least we could do is allow them the dignity and respect they deserve, but instead the government is treating them like second-class citizens, making them feel guilty for taking a breath. Towey is definitely right when he writes: "When the government can steer vulnerable individuals to conclude for themselves that life is not worth living, who needs a death panel?" Towey is exactly right. Once the government has control of the lives of vulnerable individuals, when is the line drawn? What is the definition of a life worth living? I can tell you that those soldiers who come home after fighting tooth and nail with sheer grit and determination know what it is to fight and WANT to live- They don't want to be thought of as being burdens to society because they are NOT burdens! One of my favorite sentences from Towey's article comes when he writes: "One can only imagine a soldier surviving the war in Iraq and returning without all of his limbs only to encounter a veteran's health-care system that seems intent on his surrender." So true. Our soldiers are taught to fight and be strong, yet this book is going against everything they have fought so hard for, everything they train for before they go into battle. The information in this book is basically a contract of death for our veterans. The men and women at Walter Reed who are going through intense physical therapy just so they can take another step, lift their arms to give their loved ones a hug, or learn how to adapt to life in a wheelchair need hope and optimism, not fear and guilt. They need to feel that the VA and their president respect them and care for them, but with a book like this in place, it is hard for me to believe that they really do care.
In Towey's op-ed, he discusses the period between 2007-2008 in which the "death book" was updated, and an interesting point Towey found is that in an effort to update the information, no faith groups or disability rights advocates were consulted. I wonder why? Perhaps this is because this book goes against everything they have worked so hard to advance: An individuals right to life and dignity. Yet, how ironic that the only source listed in the new version as a resource on "advanced directives" is the Hemlock Society, which so conveniently has since been renamed to the sugar-coated "Compassion and Choices." I don't know how this group defines "compassion," but everything they have done to contribute to this book is far from compassionate. Now, the men and women who risk their lives are the TRUE beacons of compassion. I'd like to know if Dr. Pearlman and the members of this so-called "Compassion and Choices" group would volunteer to join the armed forces and risk their lives for a cause greater than self? I wonder how they would feel if they were in a nursing home or hospital, having someone guide them through the scenarios listed in the "death book"?
Many assume the "death book" will not be presented to a patient until they are elderly or disabled, which is bad enough, but did you know that just last month (July 2009), the VA directive according to Towey has instructed its primary care physicians to "raise advance care planning with all VA patients and to refer them to 'Your Life, Your Choices.' Not just those of advanced age and debilitated condition—all patients. America's 24 million veterans deserve better." You betcha they do! These men and women are heroes and should be treated as such; instead, they are referred to a book on planning death. Shame on the VA! Shame on you, President Obama!
Just as Sarah Palin brought the discussion of the "death panels" to the forefront, I know it is just a matter of time before she discusses the "death book," and I encourage her to do so expediently, so that we can put an end to this horror. Sarah was so accurate when she said the following regarding the "death panel":
"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care.... Such a system is downright evil."
The same classification can be used to described the "death book," for it too is evil! We have a president who says he wants veterans to have the best care possible, but how is this possible when he wants to cut the costs of care. When you cut the costs of care, you are reducing the value of the care itself. Towey concludes his heart-wrenching piece by writing the following:
"If President Obama is sincere in stating that he is not trying to cut costs by pressuring the disabled to forgo critical care, one good way to show that commitment is to walk two blocks from the Oval Office and pull the plug on 'Your Life, Your Choices.' He should make sure in the future that VA decisions are guided by values that treat the lives of our veterans as gifts, not burdens."
A thoughtful statement from a thoughtful man who values life. Our vets deserve the best care money can buy! Why would we want to put a price tag on the value of care they receive? Giving them the best care is the least we could do for these men and women, these TRUE American heroes who have fought so hard so that we may live a free and prosperous life full of endless possibilities. President Obama, if you respect our brave men and women as much as you claim to as their commander and chief, put an end to the use of "Your Life, Your Choices" by the VA NOW because this book does nothing but go against everything our brave men and women have fought so hard for.

They Just Don't Get It!
When are people going to wake up? More specifically, when are liberals going to wake up and realize that it's okay for a woman to have a full-time job while raising children? As I was eating breakfast, looking out at the beautiful, calm lake, I began to ponder what I would write my next blog entry about. I continued to think about this while doing the breakfast dishes. While I was doing the dishes, my mom's dear friend stopped by the cabin and was chatting with my mom when she asked me what I had been up to lately. I told her I was still doing a little tutoring, but was excited about how my life had changed in the last year. I began to tell her how I had gotten the chance to be a guest on Eddie Burke's AK radio show as well as how I gotten involved as the San Diego Regional Organizer for the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee. Now, as soon as I had said this, I knew I was going to get one of two reactions. My mom's friend was either A) going to love Sarah or B) going to detest Sarah. This is because there is something about Sarah that brings out the best or worst in people. As soon as I opened my mouth, I was ready for whatever reaction I would receive. When I saw the expression on her face, as I told her, I immediately knew I was talking to someone in category "B." It wasn't her facial expressions that bothered me, but what she said in her response. Instead of commending me on wanting to get involved in the political process, the first thing out of her mouth was "I can't stand her." When I asked why, I was expecting her to tell me it was because of her politics or something she had said during the campaign like the "paling around with terrorists" comment, but no. Once again, the negative perceptions about Sarah became personal. Her main argument for why she disliked Sarah was because Sarah "paraded that needy child around with her everywhere she went." Not only was this comment disturbing, but the fact that she didn't refer to baby Trig by name, but as that "needy child," sincerely bothered me to the point in which anger arose inside of me. I don't know about you, but "needy" is far from a term I would use to describe little Trig. "Loving," "nurtured," "sweet" and "adorable," are just some of the words I would use to describe this wonderful child. A "needy child" is one who is in need of food, shelter and clothing, and last I checked, Trig is in need of none of those; in fact, he is a happy, healthy, chubby baby as Sarah said not too long ago. Now, you all know good and well liberals would not be describing Trig in this way if he didn't have Down Syndrome or was the child of a democratic politician, or even the child of a male politician for that matter- oh, no. If it had been anyone other than Sarah Palin, people would be praising the individual. Yet, because it is Sarah, the left throw cheap shots and discriminate against both her and her family. Trig is an innocent little baby who, as he grows up, will want to be treated as any other child. Yet, the left see children like Trig as a burden, not the joys that come with life. This is the problem with today's society. Instead of embracing all individuals, people are judged on their outer appearance instead of their hearts and what is on the inside. What is separating a Down Syndrome baby from any other baby? An extra chromosome. To me, that makes them extra special; they are God's children too. Individuals with Down Syndrome are the most loving, kind-hearted people, and I know the mean-hearted liberals out there could learn a thing or two from them. Thank God for Sarah and Todd. They have brought the issue of the importance of understanding, supporting and loving special needs children to the forefront. I have learned so much from them through their love for precious Trig. It is because of people like Todd and Sarah who illustrate what unconditional love is- what it means to love and be loved. Love has no bounds, and they have widened the awareness for supporting special needs children throughout this great country and the world.
The thing that upsets me most is that people continue to bash Sarah without ever taking the time to actually get to know her. They think they know her, but they don't. As I have stated in a previous post ("A True Modern-Day Feminist") , Sarah represents everything liberal women have fought so hard against. Her very existence drives them mad. They are so closed minded that they are unable to see the Sarah we have come to know and love. If only they opened their eyes, the would see what we see. As a young conservative, I have no problem with someone disagreeing with politicians based upon political ideology, but taking personal cheap shots is uncalled for. When liberals bash Sarah's family, they are bashing her as well. Trig was not paraded around anymore than Barack Obama and Joe Biden's children and grandchildren were. During the campaign, Sarah's children did not pose for "People Magazine" or "US Weekly" week after week, not that there was anything wrong with that. It should be up to the parents, not outsiders to decide these decisions. The only reason liberals did not like seeing Sarah and her children together at events and on stage at the Republican National Convention is because it was a reminder to them that she CHOSE life; she CHOSE to carry her sweet baby with Down Syndrome to full-term. Even the women on "The View" could not understand why a woman would do this to her children. Perhaps Elisabeth Hasselbeck put it best when she said Sarah Palin is no different than any other proud parent. As the wife of a professional football player, she said she could relate to Sarah because there were times when her kids would be up at odd hours just so they could see their daddy after a game. You can't take back the time spent with your children, so grab any precious moments you can. It is easy to see that the Palin children are not only loved but nurtured as well. Todd and Sarah have two adult children who know have learned the value of hard work. Track is risking his life to protect his country, and Bristol is a wonderful mother who chose life. In choosing life, she is now helping other young girls by speaking out about the value of abstinence and the hardships that come with being a young mother. She is a great role model for young women and other young mothers to see that they too can complete their education and be successful. She wants to make a life for herself without depending on the government. Willow and Piper are two young girls with bright futures ahead of them, and little Trig and Tripp are two little boys who are growing up surrounded by a lot of love. Todd and Sarah have instilled in their children great values, and this is present in the way in which they lead their lives.
Just because Sarah was a governor, did not mean she couldn't fulfill her duties as governor while raising her family. It burns me up when I hear liberals say that she should never have worked after learning that she would be having a child with special needs. So, let me get this straight: They want Sarah to play the role of dutiful housewife just because she has a child with Down Syndrome? What year is this, 1950? I'm sorry but you don't hear the left telling a democratic politician with a special needs child that he/she shouldn't be working? Not only is this a sexist, discriminatory statement, but it is downright disgusting. This is yet another symptom of Palin Derangement Syndrome (PDS). How dare the left treat Sarah or her child as if they were any different than any other individual? This is another problem with today's society. Instead of embracing Sarah as the strong woman she is, and Trig as the beautiful child he is, the left feels the need to dictate how she should and should not parent. I guarantee no one ever questioned Michelle Obama while she was making over $300,000/year working for a Chicago hospital why she wasn't staying at home full-time to be with her children, or asking Joe Biden why he remained Delaware's senator after his first wife died in a car crash when his two sons were so young? Instead, both Michelle and Joe were praised for being able to juggle both duties as parent and employee, which they should be. Why can't Sarah be given the same respect and praise? I know why, and you know why, fellow readers. It is because Sarah has an "R" after her name. Even though she is a maverick, blazes her own trail, and does not walk with the Washington herd, the liberal left's extreme hatred for her makes her a target. The very fact that she is a conservative woman is yet another reason (For more on Sarah and the treatment she receives by women on the liberal left, please read my post "A True Modern-Day Feminist."). In questioning the president and his policies, the left claim she is asking for it. What ever happened to our First Amendment right to question our leaders? It is scary to think what our country could look in three years, let alone what restrictions our leaders may put on our right to speak out and voice our concerns.
I just wish the liberal left would let go of their personal hatred for Sarah and stick to her record as city council member, mayor and governor. It is real disheartening that every time I ask someone what it is that makes them dislike Sarah, it always turns personal, and these loons are praised and cheered by the liberal msm. Yet, when a conservative or someone who disagrees with President Obama is asked why they don't like him and these people give political reasoning or political ideology as a response, they are called racist, angry mobsters (See my post "Sarah is Right, Again"). Sarah is a good, honest woman- a woman I am proud to call a role model. In responding to my mother's friend, I told her:
"Sarah gives me hope that I may hold a political office one day. She worked hard to get to the point in which she is in. As someone who did not go to a fancy ivy league school, she proves that if you work hard, you can accomplish great things. She is a great mother who loves her children and treats them as equals. She and Todd love their son Trig so much so that they chose to give him life when so many babies with special needs are aborted. I commend them for that and forever will hold them in high regard for doing so."
Sarah illustrated her love for her children in her decision to resign. In resigning, she put her family above party; furthermore, she put her love for America and its people above the politics-as-usual approach so many have become accustomed to. Name me another politician who has ever done that? She is living proof that you do not need to hold a public title in order to accomplish great things. This is a woman who KNOWS what is important. Not only is she a loving mother, but a woman with a servant's heart. Sarah has already done great things outside of the governor's office. One of the most important things she has done is helping to shed light on the health care plans the Obama Administration has for America. It was because of her that the "death panel" language was removed from the House version of the bill. When Sarah speaks, people listen. Although people may not agree with her, they take notice. I encourage you all to become a fan of Sarah on her facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/sarahpalin. We live during a time in which you don't know whom to trust because it seems as if no one is listening, but I know and you know whom we can trust: Sarah. She HAS proven that she DOES listen to us and hears us loud and clear; it's about time. We NEED Sarah's voice during these troubling times!

Sarah's Right, Again
Before I begin this entry, I just want to issue a statement on behalf of America-loving conservatives like myself: Recently, it has been reported that two democrats have come forward with an apparent attempt to attack conservatives when they said conservatives want the president to be physically harmed. As a conservative, I strongly condemn statements like these. As a Christian woman, I love my country, and while I disagree with my president on many issues, I would NEVER wish harm on him or his beautiful family. It is a disgrace for individuals to confuse political disagreements with how conservatives, like myself, would actually treat our president. While we like it or not, Barack Obama is OUR president, just as George W. Bush was OUR president. While I did not like some of the treatment Bush received during his time as president, I never once accused those liberals who spoke out against him as wanting to physically harm him in anyway. The fact that we can all have our own opinions is what makes America great. As the great Ronald Reagan once said:
"I love America because people accept me for what I am. They don't question my ancestry, my faith, my political beliefs. When I move from one place to another, I don't have to ask permission.... I love America because America trusts me."
Thank you President Reagan for speaking the words so many conservatives, like myself, truly take to heart.
I don't know about you, fellow readers, but I'm very concerned about the Obama administration's plan to change the health care system as we know it. Unlike many others, I am not afraid to call it socialized medicine. While fixing the health care system is one thing, destroying the health care system as we know it is another. Thank God individuals like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Sarah Palin are speaking out about the horrors of Obamacare. Thank God for brave, average-day Americans who are not afraid to voice their concerns even when they are called racist, angry mobsters. Wow, how times have changed. The same people who are criticizing these concerned, average-day Americans are the same individuals who praised the efforts of those who spoke out against George W. Bush like Nancy Pelosi did a few years back. According to her, it was okay to speak out against Bush, but it is totally uncalled for and downright ugly to speak out now against Obama. Is that hypocritical or what? How dare Princess Pelosi or any other democrat attack someone for merely speaking out and demonstrating their 1st Amendment right? Now, when we speak out against this administration, we have senators like Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) saying things like, "There is more anger in America today than at any time I can remember, " and John Dingell (D-Mich.) who said, "I am eager to talk about the bill with anyone who wants to discuss it. That doesn't open the door to everyone who wants to demagogue the discussion." I'm sorry, but I don't think they are willing to listen to anyone who is critical of the plan they intend to pass. Just as Obama has continued his administration's "My way or the highway" Chicago-style approach, the democratic majority is doing the same.
Recently, Sarah correctly referred to President Obama's health care agenda as "downright evil." Good for you, Sarah, it's about time someone with common sense gives us the straight talk. Like many of you, I don't want the government deciding my health care decisions. This is what doctors are for- we don't need a middleman. It seems as if President Obama has been taking speaking lessons from his VP, Joe Biden, because just recently he said, "If you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. It's the post office that's always having problems." Okay, Mr. President, it seems as if you're justifying everything those against you're health care plan are arguing, since the only government-owned industry of the above three is the post office. Looks like the gaffe's on you, Mr. President. I'm a little confused: I thought you were in favor of government-controlled health care, yet what your analogy above implies is that the government has not done that great a job with the post office, which is a no brainer. Since we all know this to be the case, we should really be worried when it comes to the government being in control of our health care decisions. We're not talking about a postage stamp here, we're talking about human lives.
Sarah was also right on the money when she said recently in regards to the "death panels": "The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care.... Such a system is downright evil." Although Sarah was being downright correct in her assessment, using her 1st Amendment right, she was and still is being attacked for having the nerve to speak out and use that awful language, which is how people on the left see it. Sarah is speaking for many because the latest polls show the majority of republicans, independents and roughly 40% of democrats are against Obamacare and the number of those in opposition is growing by the day. The more people learn about Obamacare, the more they will come to see that it will actually do more to harm the health care system than to help it. Rush Limbaugh, who now refers to President Obama not as the community organizer, but as the "community agitator," sees this, Sean Hannity sees this, and Sarah Palin sees this; I see this too, and I'm sure you are this too. As I was listening to talk radio this morning, a host made a great point regarding Obamacare. The host said there is nothing in the house version of the health care bill that will actually help to improve the American health care system; instead, this is just yet another ploy by the democratic party to control the American people and grow government. The democratic party has wanted socialized medicine for a long time. This summer, I have decided that it would be inspiring to read all things Ronald Reagan. The great Ronald Reagan discussed socialized medicine in great detail during his life. In "Reagan in His Own Hand: The Writings of Ronald Reagan that Reveal His Revolutionary Vision for America," Reagan refers to Stanton Evans, a journalist who once wrote an article critical of government-run health care. In discussing Evan's article, Reagan said:
"Advocates of Nationalized Health Insurance which is a nice sounding euphemism for socialized medicine have repeated over and over again that our system of private medical practice is a shame and disgrace and there is a health care crisis in America. And sure enough Congressmen, Senators, and Dr.'S opposed to the proposals for Federal health care find themselves tacitly accepting that there is a problem. Then they get into the endless argument on that basis means we wind up with some kind of government medicine. The costly tragedy is there is no health care crisis in the U.S."
Reagan goes on to discuss how great the American health care system is when compared to other countries around the globe. This is still very evident today. I bet many of you know someone or have heard of someone from another country who has visited America to have an operation or to see a specialist, and we all know this is because we have the best doctors and the best hospitals in the world. Now, I guarantee you'd be hard-pressed to name another American who has freely picked to go to, say, Mexico for a major health care issue over the care they'd receive in America. This is because we are America- the land of freedom and opportunity. The land of thinkers and vast ideas. What other country has given so many great opportunities to so many? Like the song says: "America, America God shed his grace on thee. And crown they good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea." People are starting to wake up and speak up in regard to the issue of health care. The health care debate is in full force, and the question is, will the government start listening to us for a change? Let's make them. Attend the town halls, and if they won't let you inside, I encourage you to make your signs and carry on peaceful protests outside for this IS America where we STILL have the right to speak our minds, so let's be like the great, Sarah, and do it because together, we CAN make a difference!!!
Ethicsgate
What happened to honesty and integrity within the Alaska Democratic Party? Where's the ethical standards of the now Obama Administration? And finally, why does the Alaska liberal blogosphere so desperately want to rip Sarah Palin's character to shreds? These are important questions that I have pondered since the presidential election of 2008. While I had my assumptions for the answers to these questions, I needed more than that- I needed concrete evidence that illustrated the link between these three groups. This past summer, a reader shared a link to a You Tube video entitled Palin, the Alaska Bloggers and 'Ethicsgate' that I found not only astonishing, but eye awakening, so much so that I have decided to discuss what I saw with you, my readers. Many of you may remember this post from the summer, but as my readership has grown dramatically over the course of the last few months, I am reposting it with some new additions. The report was originally put together by Naked Emperor News.com (NEN), a conservative blog that is also featured on Townhall.com. Their report was re-posted on You Tube on July 31, 2009 (my birthday). I will include a link at the end of this post, and I encourage all of you to view the video in its entirety. What NEN has done is show the connections between the three groups mentioned above in an attempt to destroy Sarah Palin's good name and bring her down. Although Sarah is no longer in elected office, the liberal left is continuing their vengeful, spiteful, nasty attacks on her and her family. Most recently, you all saw this happen with the giddy way in which the liberal blogosphere reacted to a decision made by two judges who ruled to open up the custody case between Bristol and Levi over their son, Tripp. It is important to note that their attempts to destroy her character were fully in force as soon as she stepped onto the national stage and became the Republican Party's nominee for vice president.
You may or may not be familiar with the name Peter Rouse, but you should be. Rouse, an Alaskan, is a senior advisor to Barack Obama with an office between David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel. While being advisor to the president is a huge honor in itself, it is how Rouse got the job that is the main issue at hand. Rouse's mother grew up in AK and Rouse once served as chief of staff to former Lieutenant Governor Terry Miller. He is also good friends with fellow Alaskan State Senator Kim Elton, the individual who began the whole Troopergate investigation. This is an important link as NEN reports. NEN has uncovered audio of an interview Elton did with a reporter prior to the 2008 presidential election:
Elton: "So this has been a fascinating year watching what's been happening back East.
Reporter: So you're an Obama man, Senator Elton?
Elton: I'm a big fan.
Reporter: Are you? Really? Is that an official endorsement?
Elton: I guess we can call it that. I've not done it any place else, but I kind of weighed in with a contribution, a couple of contributions this last year, but yeah you can make it official now.
So, the same individual who started Troopergate, was a "fan" and ardent supporter of then-candidate Obama? Elton is the kind of guy who doesn't seem to be able to keep his mouth shut. NEN uncovered another audio tape in which Elton admitted to talking to Rouse a couple times a month about the election: "One of my great friends, somebody I talk to a couple times a month is Pete Rouse who is chief of staff to Barack Obama." How ironic that an advisor to Obama be in such close communication with the individual, a democrat, who started the first ethics investigation against Sarah? But for the Obama campaign, one investigation was not enough. In typical Chicago-style politics, Sarah was a threat, so the Obama campaign continued on its mission to destroy her. NEN reported that the Obama campaign contacted the union for Alaska State Troopers, which is the union Mike Wooten (Sarah's ex-brother-in-law and trooper identified in the investigation) belonged to. This communication resulted in another ethics complaint- this time by the union for Alaska State Troopers. What a domino effect of sorts, but the connections don't end there- not by a long shot.
This is where AK bloggers come into play. Remember shortly after Sarah was picked as the VP nominee, a large number of media outlets sent reporters to AK to find out more about this little-known governor? Well, their excuse was that they just wanted to learn more about Sarah and her time as governor, but many, including myself, KNEW what these reporters were really doing: They were sent to AK to dig up whatever dirt they could on Sarah. NEN found that the media gave "unquestioned credence to the Alaskan blogs." the media took it upon themselves to use various blogs as factual; therefore, they become the media's sources to all things Sarah Palin. What is important to note is that these blogs were not objective by any means; instead, these bloggers were actually organized liberal political activists and liberal radio talk show hosts according to NEN. While watching this report, one blogger can be heard saying in regard to the bloggers and their blogs that they were in the "right place at the right time." These bloggers saw destroying Sarah Palin as their ticket to fame.
Some of you may have heard of the PAC Alaskans for Truth. While this group's name implies honesty, this PAC is far from honest. This group was created as a way to, "hold Palin accountable." Many board members of this PAC are the very members who have filed ethics complaints against Sarah. The following is a list of the prominent members of this PAC and a little more about each of them: 1) Shannyn Moore- liberal blogger ("Just a Girl From Homer") who can be seen as an analyst on MSNBC, active participant of Alaskans for Truth PAC. 2) Linda Kellen Biegel- liberal blogger ("Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis"), Deputy Treasurer for Alaskans for Truth. 3) Joanne Devon- blogger ("Mudflats"), wife of the treasurer for Alaskans for Truth, 4) Camille Conte- also known as "CC," host of AK show Demo Memo, chairperson for Alaskans for Truth. These members not only became sources to media outlets, but they also held protests collected recall signatures and filed ethics complaints. (Remember the Arctic Cat complaint, well that complaint was filed by Celtic Diva herself, Linda Kellen Biegel.) While the ethics complaint filers claim to be "independent, concerned citizens," this is far from the truth as you can see. These individuals all pal around at the same daycare center. Perhaps the most dramatic piece of evidence that illustrates how close these bloggers are comes in the form of a July 4, 2009, radio show featuring Biegel and "CC" that has been uncovered by NEN. During the show, several so-called "unconnected" ethics complaint filers happen to call in during the show. Pure coincidence? I think not. It is clearly evident that these callers got together and arranged this. One of the callers, "Val," is non other than Val Henning, wife of Zane Henning who has filed not just one, but two ethics complaints against Sarah. Yet, the listeners did not know this. Instead, viewers are introduced to "Val," who acts as if she is a concerned citizen, not a woman with a conflict of interest. The following is what she said on the show in regards to the filed ethics complaints: "What Palin calls frivolous, the things I've read don't seem frivolous. To me, it is a clear violation of the Ethics Act." Gee, Val I wonder how you came to that conclusion? How objective of you. It is sick how corrupt some individuals can be.
Not only did NEN find connections between the Obama campaign and the liberal bloggers, but also the connection among these two groups and AK democrats. I have already discussed the link between Rouse and Elton, but there are other lawmakers involved as well. NEN has linked the following AK democrats: 1) Mark Begich- United States Senator from AK, worked closely with Rouse on the Natural Gas Pipeline. 2) Patti Higgens- Chairperson to the AK Democratic Party. 3) Tony Knowles- democratic AK governor candidate Sarah defeated in the 2006 gubernatorial election, so-called "Alaskan Mythbuster" for the Obama campaign, good friend to Rouse. According to the NEN report, Rouse is also connected to various prominent Alaska bloggers, one of whom is Linda Kellen Biegel (Celtic Diva). The majority of these individuals not only are connected to Rouse, but to the bloggers and radio talk host mentioned above. "CC's" connection to these AK democrats is very interesting. NEN reports that, oftentimes she would not only discuss her Alaskans for Truth PAC with top AK democrats on her show, but she would use her show as a soap box for actions to take against Sarah. NEN uncovered audio from one of her shows, which aired prior to the 2008 election, in which she told an AK state politician,
"Well, she's (Sarah) thinkin' 2012, you know she's probably salivating because she's thinking to herself 'either way, I win.' If I win this election, yippy-eye-A, somehow I got to be vice president of the United States. If I lose this election, there's a possibility she'll end up being the senator of the state. Worst case scenario in her mind, she comes home and continues her cushy job of governor, but you see Governor Palin made a fatal error when she slammed the democrats along the troopergate trail. She made a fatal error when she slammed the party that basically helped her achieve most of the success she achieved in her 21 months as governor because when she does come back as governor, and when she doesn't become the senator because Mark Begich wins, she's gonna deal with the democratic majority, and I hope that you guys give her a run for her money, see because the democrats, we like to play nice, we like to do it, but you know what, that would be extremely inappropriate because she came out and she slammed you guys during the troopergate, and let's play ball, let's play ball with her, and it will be interesting to see how the democrats work with the governor when she comes home. I hope we don't play nice because that will not be appropriate."
"CC" got her wish because we all know how Sarah was treated when she came home from the campaign trail. We have seen and read the stories. Sarah was treated like an outsider by not only the Democratic Party, but the good ol' boy network of the Republican Party as well.
Not only did NEN uncover a photo of "CC" standing next to Kim Elton and another photo of her standing next to Mark Begich and his wife, but she also spoke at an AK democratic event. She is not alone. Some of the bloggers mentioned above have also been photographed with high-ranking members of the AK Democratic Party: Shannyn Moore ("Just a Girl from Homer") in a photo with Begich and his wife. Linda Kellen Biegel ("Celtic Diva") in a photo with Begich that NEN reports was taken at Begich's home. Not only has Biegel had contact with Begich, but with an individual named Jonathan, who was Obama and Begich's connection to rural AK.
Perhaps one of the most petty attacks by these ankle biters comes from blogger Shannyn Moore. Following Sarah's decision to address an Indiana Right to Life group, Moore went on MSNBC and spoke with David Schuster, in which she said in regards to Palin, "And she's choosing to go speak, basically in a pandering move to her base, an anti-choice group." We all know the harsh treatment Sarah received when she decided to go speak to this group. Although she spoke during a time that in no way affected the state legislature, she was attacked endlessly, which had nothing to do with her job as governor and everything to do with partisan politics. Sure enough, a woman by the name of Sondra Tompkins, who was a fixture at the Alaskans for Truth protest rallys, filed an ethics complaint because Sarah chose to travel to Indiana to speak to a group Tompkins called, according to NEN, a "right-wing ultra conservative group that supports her." When you don't think anymore could happen to Sarah, they throw the kitchen sink at her.
It is important to discuss what the NEN found in terms of the payoffs many of the individuals discussed above have received from the dirty work they have performed. While the payoffs may not have been financial, what they got in return has paid off big time for the following individuals: 1)Troopergate investigation starter and Peter Rouse buddy Kim Elton- resigned as AK state senator and paid handsomely as he was appointed by Obama to the Department of the Interior's director of AK. 2) Demo Memo Host Camille Conte ("CC")- received national attention when she got the award of "Most Valuable Local Media Personality" of 2008 from "The Nation" Magazine. 3) "Just a Girl from Homer" blogger Shannyn Moore- in her own words: "I had a radio station show, I was fired, and I started blogging and because I was starting to write, I was able to get back on the radio. I was on Air America every night as a reporter." So, when you hear these individuals say they have not been paid for the blogs they have written or the stuff they have talked about, we KNOW the truth.
Thank God for outlets like NEN. They have done what the msm are so afraid to do or simply won't do. NEN has uncovered what they describe as "new evidence" in regards to their report. According to NEN, "It is illegal to break the confidentiality of ethics complaints or knowingly file a false complaint. It is also a crime to get others to commit crimes under AK solicitation laws." Maybe it's time these bloggers realized this. NEN has found audio of Moore saying the following: "Um, you know, I actually talked to someone who was putting in an ethics complaint, and I wanted to know a little bit more about it. They had wanted me to write about it or talk about it on the air. I said 'Wow, well, that's got a lot of holes in it, and they said, 'Well, I don't really care, I just want to be a pain in the ass to the governor.'" This statement pretty much sums up what these so-called "independent concerned citizens" have been toward Sarah. Not only have they cost the state and her hundreds of thousands of dollars, but they have illustrated just how hateful, unhappy and immature they are. Don't these people have anything better to do than file complaint after complaint? With each filed complaint, comes a dissmissed complaint, which illustrates just how out of touch these individuals are with reality. I know this post is long and may have to be re-read in order to fully understand all of the connections, but I felt it was very important that I share this information with my readers. You may be asking, "Why does this matter now that the election is over? My response to that question is that this does matter because it is important to see the lengths the Obama campaign went to win an election and their attempt to destroy a good woman's character in the process. Sarah is a threat to everything the Obama administration stands for, and she will continue to be a threat the more she speaks out against his policies that could change the America we have come to know and love. It is important that we stand by Sarah for it is a guarantee that she will continue to be tested. Let's stand with her and her amazing family and support them as they continue the good fight for truthfulness and fairness, for Sarah is speaking for US!!!

S.A.R.A.H: Such A Real American Hero
What a difference a year makes. This past Friday, July 31st, I celebrated my 28th birthday surrounded by tons of family and friends at the cabin. As I do every year, I took a few minutes to reflect on this past year. This past year has gone by so fast and the changes that have taken place not only in my life, but in our country led me to wonder what the next year will bring. A year ago, the presidential election was just beginning to heat up. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were battling over who would be the Democratic Party's nominee. John McCain had already pretty much secured the Republican Party's nod. I remember listening to talk radio everyday just so I could hear about the on-going soap opera like battle between Barack and Hillary. Was Hillary going to continue the fight? Was the Democratic Party going to split into two halves? Were the PUMA's (Party Unity My Ass people) for real? These questions and many more were discussed and re-discussed daily. Little did I know that in a few short weeks the world would be introduced to a Ronald Reagan incarnate in the form of Sarah Palin.
Two words: Sarah Palin. Whenever her name is pronounced, people have one of two reactions- they either love her or hate her. A year ago, I did not even know who Sarah Palin was, but I am so glad that I, as well as the rest of America, has gotten to get to know this truly tremendous woman and her generous, kind-hearted family. I may have not been familiar with Sarah Palin, but my dad was very familiar with her long before she was picked as McCain's running mate. I first heard of Sarah, not by her name, but as my dad referred to her as that "cool governor of Alaska." You see, my dad had been listening to the news one day when a commentator was talking about this governor from AK who was a true reformer and fiscal conservative. My dad drew an immediately liking to her when he heard about how she had virtually reformed and cleaned-up the corruption in the state of AK. I remember dad telling me about all the amazing things she had done as governor and that he sincerely hoped she would be considered as a possible running mate for McCain. As he told me about her, I immediately began to like her and all she stood for, but I thought "Come on, we're talking about the governor of Alaska." Now, don't get me wrong, but prior to learning about how wonderful the state of AK and its people are, I was only going on what I had seen on TV and in the movies. You know those movies about distant lands, lots of snow and Eskimos? Well, let's just say that's what I thought AK was all about, not that there's anything wrong with that. Like so many of you out there, these stereotypes were instilled into my brain to the point in which it was hard to see AK as anything other than a desolate land. Let's just say that I am SOOOO glad I was wrong about AK and its awesome people. Not only is AK one of the most beautiful, resource-rich states in America, but the people who I have gotten to know from AK are the most generous, friendly people I have ever met; the saying "real people" certainly applies. It's too bad more people cannot realize what I have come to realize.
The people of AK have a lot to thank Sarah for. She not only forever changed the once-held perceptions people in the lower 48 held regarding AK and its people, but she has opened the door for conservative women like me everywhere who finally have found a voice to represent us in politics. A year ago, I was getting ready to apply for teaching positions at local community colleges to teach journalism and English, I never thought I'd be in the position I am today. I never thought I'd be blogging, getting politically active, and speaking at Tea Parties and if not for Sarah, I guarantee I wouldn't be writing and thinking about having a career in politics. Sarah has inspired me so much, and I'm sure she has inspired you as well. This blog has opened so many doors, and I couldn't be more thrilled to see what God has in store for me as I continue down this journey called life. I have gotten to know so many amazing people who have inspired me to fight the good fight and continue to press on no matter who tries to bring me down. People like #1 AK Talk Radio Host Eddie Burke, who has been nice enough to have me as a regular guest on his radio show. (Please listen to his show on www.kbyr.com Monday-Friday from 3-6 PST.) Eddie is a great example of a person who is repeatedly attacked, but continues the good fight for a cause greater than self; he truly loves his country. Another inspiring AK individual who I have gotten the chance to know is Jessica Steele, Sarah's hairdresser who owns the Beehive Beauty Shop in Wasilla, AK. As I blogged about recently, a reporter for the New York Slimes (Times) recently wrote a story using quotes they said came from Jessica about Sarah's hair thinning from stress, and so on. Only problem is, Jessica NEVER said anything of the sort and NEVER would. This is the media of today. A Media that see Sarah as a threat, which as I have discussed before is the reason they are trying, yet to no avail, to bring down. These are just a couple of great AKn people whom I have gotten to know over the last few months. These are good people who, like Sarah, are being unfairly attacked by the liberal left. When they are attacked, they press forward, which is what I am going to do. Like them, I know that anytime I am attacked, my common sense message is getting out there. When Jesus was spit on, he pressed on just as Sarah continues to press on when slanderous statements are reported about her and her family. People like Sarah, Eddie and Jessica are great Americans who are fighting the good fight in the name of freedom and liberty. It is our First Amendment right to speak out, and until this right is taken away, I will continue to speak out and voice my opinion. Like the great Ronald Reagan, Sarah Palin is a great communicator who is also not afraid to speak out, which is so refreshing. I did not agree with everything John McCain did in his run for the presidency, but the best thing he did was selecting Sarah to be his running mate, and I will forever be grateful. If it wasn't for his picking Sarah, America may have not gotten to know and come to love this woman. Sarah is a true jewel whom in true Ronald Reagan fashion has and will continue to do great things. Last year, as I reflected on the year that had been and the year that was to come, I never would have thought that, in the year to come, our country would be heading down the dangerous path toward socialism. I wonder what next year will look like? We NEED more Americans who are willing to fight the good fight for smaller, more efficient government. The more people who rise up and voice their concerns, the better chance we have to truly make a difference for our children and ourselves. I recommend you all read Glenn Beck's "Common Sense." It will open your eyes to what America once was and unfortunately what it is becoming. We, the people, are strongest when we come together.
So on my next birthday, it is my hope that when I reflect back on the year that was, I can look with pride at a nation who came together as one like we did following the tragic events of 9/11. Anything is possible, so, readers, keep up the good fight in the name of freedom and liberty!!!
