Scott Baio, You are a Great American

Go, Scott Baio!!! I've always admired Scott Baio as an actor. I love watching the re-runs on TV of "Happy Days." There's just something about Chachi and The Fonz that puts me in a good mood. Now a days, it seems that we could use all the happy we can get just to make it through.

When I found out Scott Baio was a conservative, I immediately was so excited to see that he is not afraid to stand up and speak out especially in Hollywood where just the mere mention of being a conservative automatically means your name is put on a blacklist of sorts. I really admire people like Scott Baio, Jon Voight, Angie Harmon and Kelsey Grammar because they are not afraid to speak the truth when the so-called "norm" in Hollywood is radical liberalism. Thank you, Scott, for not being afraid to do the right thing and voice your opinion. As a conservative, I'm sure he receives a lot of flack not only from the Hollywood crowd, but from the liberal left in general, which is not only unfair, but wrong. When did it become a crime to voice your First-Amendment right? When did it become a crime to speak out in opposition to authority? Did it ever occur to those who condemn those of us on the right for speaking out that groups like Code Pink spoke out throughout George W. Bush's presidency? Did we, on the right, condemn them for speaking out? The answer is "NO WAY!" Not only would it have been wrong to condemn these anti-war protesters, but it would have been wrong to because they were demonstrating their First-Amendment right. There is nothing wrong with peaceful protests, and there is nothing wrong with speaking out. While I don't agree with these individuals, who was I or you to criticize them? The great thing about America is that we have the freedom to voice our opinions.

Although I know and you know that we have a little thing called the First Amendment, it seems the left hasn't gotten the memo. While it is okay for the left to speak out, these same people don't feel the same way when people like you and me do the same. How insane is that? It's not only vindictive, but hypocritical. How dare the left call us "tea baggers," "right-wing extremists," "Nazis" and "racists" when we are doing the same thing they have done for years? How dare the left criticize us for speaking out against this administration when they did the same during W's presidency? The answer is simple: They have no problem dishing out criticism, but are unable to take it when they are criticized. When great conservative people like Scott Baio speak out, they get viciously attacked, and they get their Twitter accounts hacked into. This is exactly what happened to Scott. Scott didn't do anything wrong, for he was doing the same thing those on the left got praised for when Bush was in office: speaking out. Where is the justice? Where is the common decency? Scott and his family are stand-up people. They are Americans like you and me who are simply trying to live the "American Dream." Yet, the left seems to want to punish Americans like Scott Baio. They look at the idea of the "American Dream" as a dirty thought. This idea of leveling the playing field for all is partially what's wrong with America today. Instead of encouraging successful people like Scott, we are punishing them. My parents raised me with the value of hard work. I was taught to seek the "American Dream." This "American Dream" philosophy goes against everything the left believes in. What are the parents of today going to teach their children- that the "American Dream" is no longer capable because they will be punished? This is not only morally wrong, but it goes against everything our founding fathers worked so hard to establish.

Scott Baio is fighter. After his Twitter account was hacked into, he tweeted that he will not be silenced. It is in that spirit that he will fight on! Not only is he continuing to speak out, he is doing so with sheer determination and intense grit. I encourage all of you to follow him on Twitter @realscottbaio. He is doing a lot of great things. Not only is speaking out, but he and his wife, Renee, are educating people about the importance of expanded newborn screening. This is personally important to Scott and Renee, because their daughter, Bailey, was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder, "G-A 1" shortly after she was born. I encourage you all to visit his family's "Bailey Baio Angel Foundation" to read Bailey's story, learn more about this awesome foundation as well as how you can help. The foundation's mission is as follows:

"To immediately and effectively heighten awareness on the importance of expanded newborn screening and its availability and necessity for every newborn. Through this testing, when a child is diagnosed with a disorder, steps can be taken immediately to mitigate the problems that go along with these diseases;

To create, promote and facilitate legislation which will mandate this expanded newborn screening for all fifty states; and

To raise funds through promotional activities and sales to support children and families affected with GA1 and other OA’s (organic acidemia metabolic disorders) through the creation of provisional support programs, including food, vitamin and emotional support efforts. With the costs of all these important areas of treatment so exorbitant, it is imperative that insurance companies supply these families with supplements and support they need to live relatively normal lives.   A big challenge, and a large task, yes. But with your help, as we work together to accomplish these goals, many lives will be changed and our reward will be in seeing those changes, and knowing that we took one of the most horrifying experiences of our life, and used it to make their lives and experiences much more joyful.

That is our hope and vision. We invite you to join us.”

Scott and his beautiful family are what is "right" about America. Not only is Scott not afraid to speak up, but he is using the great gifts God gave him to make a difference. Like Sarah Palin, he is a tireless advocate for children with special needs. With conservatives like Scott and Sarah leading the way, we will reclaim America and the great "American Dream." We stand with you, Scott and Sarah, so fight on!
