"Got Bailouts?"

Just when you think the Obama Administration couldn't get any more ridiculous, it does. Remember how the stimulus was supposed to be used for job creation? Remember how it was supposed to be used for "shovel-ready projects" to repair and build things like roads and schools? Well, it turns out, the stimulus is also being used to bail out the homeless and low income. As you all know, I am currently on vacation at my family's cabin near Lake Tahoe. While here, I have been getting my news from talk radio. This morning, while listening to Rush Limbaugh, I heard a story of how homeless and low-income Detroit residents are applying for up to $3000 (per person) in stimulus money. Many of these individuals are probably already getting some form of government assistance. Now, don't get me wrong, I have no problem if an individual finds his or herself out of a job and files for unemployment assistance. Individuals pay into the system, so it is their right to be supplemented if they are out of work. While helping those who find themselves temporarily unemployed is one thing, it is a very different matter to be handing out checks to individuals simply because they are considered homeless or low income. When we begin to do this, where do we draw the line?

I find it really sad that these individuals in Detroit are standing in line like they are waiting to win the lottery. In a way, President Obama is almost like the high school class president who ran on the platform of handouts in that if you voted for him, he would take care of you. In true Statist fashion, this is exactly what is happening. In promising these individuals money for rent and housing, Obama is simply reinforcing the crazy notion that government is the only answer. Instead of relying on non-profit organizations and churches to help those in need, the government is using our tax dollars as a bailout for these individuals. Perhaps the most unfortunate thing about all of this is the hope these people put in President Obama. These people really believe he going to cure all of their problems and make sure they have everything they need to survive. An example of this came this morning on Rush's show. A local Detroit new's station sent a reporter out to the stimulus check registration center and the following exchange took place between a reporter and a woman who was applying for aid:

Reporter: "Did you get an application to fill out yet?"

Woman: "I sure did, and I filled it out, and I am waiting to see what the results are going to be."

Reporter: "Will you know today how much money you're going to get?"

Woman: "No, I won't, but I'll be waiting for a phone call."

Reporter: "Where's the money coming from?"

Woman: "I believe it's coming from the city of Detroit or the state."

Reporter: "Where did they get it?"

Woman: "Some funds that was forgiven by Obama."

Reporter: "Where did Obama get the funds?"

Woman: "Obama gettin' the funds from... ummm.... I have no idea to tell you the truth. He's the president.

So there you go. "He's the president." This is probably one of the best examples of the intense faith so many have in our president. There are so many problems with placing this much faith in a single man. It looks like this woman hasn't gotten the memo that her Obama is incapable of saving every single person on earth (he is not God). On the contrary; this is not the president or the government's job. Instead of relying on herself or her family, this woman is relying on the government. She is not alone. We seem to be developing into a country in which bailouts have become the norm. Remember that saying "Got Milk?" Well, the new saying seems to be "Got Bailouts?"

What is going to happen when the money runs out? I know what's happening in Detroit is such a sad event in terms of what is happening in our country, but I had to laugh when the woman above could not even say where Obama got the money that is being handed out. Did it ever dawn on this woman that we, the taxpayers, are footing the bill? It looks like our tax dollars are not only going to so-called "shovel-ready projects," but to bail out individuals. What's next? Officials say the money will go to homeless people to get temporary housing, but what will happen when they do not have anymore money for housing? Oh, wait, I know. We'll get more from Obama. It seems as if some people think we are virtually living out the game of Monopoly, in which when we need more money, the banker will simply hand it over. When we pass "go," we'll collect our $200 dollars, but maybe it's more like $3000 now.

This would all be very humorous, if it was not so serious. When is reality going to sink in for individuals like the woman above? I hate to write this, but I do not think this woman will ever realize the full extent of the damage being done to America with the never-ending system of bailouts. Individuals like the woman above are the people who voted for Obama without researching him as a candidate. Here, we have good hard-working people like Bristol Palin. This is a young woman who is working two jobs to support her young son. Little Tripp is so lucky to have a mommy who is working hard and not relying on the government for assistance. Everyone should be commending young people like Bristol instead of tearing them down. In this age of Obama hype, it seems bailing out the "needy" has become the norm. Where are the work programs? How about we encourage these people to apply for the "shovel-ready" jobs? While it makes perfectly common sense to us, we aren't the government. You see, the members of the Obama Administration want these individuals to rely on them because these people are the Administration's meal ticket to garnering control, and we all know how important it is for this administration to control. Welcome to the age of Obama, where it's all about hype and pain and overwhelming control. Doesn't it make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to know we have a president who is going to make everything all right? I know, I know... you're not buying it either, but then again, we are because we, as taxpayers, are footing the bill.
